Swami Vivekananda - How to live

Swami Vivekananda’s teachings are relevant and inspiring for us even today, as they offer practical guidance on how to live a meaningful and fulfilling life. Here are some of the lessons we can learn from him:

Be courageous in the face of troubles

Swami Vivekananda taught us to face our fears and challenges with courage and confidence. He said, “If you ever feel afraid of anything, always turn around and face it. Never think of running away.” Swami Vivekanand also said, “The brave alone can afford to be sincere. Compare yourself with yourself. Be true to yourself.”

Believe in yourself

Swami Vivekananda emphasized the importance of self-confidence and self-reliance. He said, “You have to grow from the inside out. None can teach you; none can make you spiritual. There is no other teacher but your own soul.” He also said, “All power is within you; you can do anything and everything. Believe in that.”

Work for the welfare of others

Swami Vivekananda advocated that service to humanity is equally important as a way of expressing one’s love for God. He said, “Service to man is service to God.” He believed the best way to find inner self is in the service of others.

Have a holistic approach to life

Swami Vivekananda encouraged us to integrate our physical, mental, intellectual, moral, and spiritual aspects of life. He said, “We want that education by which character is formed, strength of mind is increased, the intellect is expanded, and by which one can stand on one’s own feet.” Thus he believed divinity comes from within because religion is not just going to church or temple or mosque.

Respect all religions and cultures

Swami Vivekananda promoted the harmony and unity of all religions and cultures. Therefore he said, “I am proud to belong to a religion which has taught the world both tolerance and universal acceptance.” He also said, “The truth is one; sages call it by various names.”

Of course, these are only few of the teachings of Swami Vivekananda but powerful enough to inspire us to lead a better life. He was a great soul who dedicated his life for the upliftment of humanity. He said, “My ideal indeed can be put into a few words and that is: to preach unto mankind their divinity, and how to make it manifest in every movement of life.” So, let us not just read but follow his teachings and strive to show divinity in every movement of our life.
